Marcela Cancelliere,
 Lake Como, Italy

“I am Italian-Argentine,” our Missionary of the Month explains. “My parents emigrated from Italy to Argentina and I was born in Buenos Aires. We lived in Argentina for many years until my parents decided to return to their homeland. We lived in Tuscany for 30 years and the last three in Northern Italy in the Lake Como Zone.”

Meet Marcela Cancelliere. Married to Ricardo, they have a 15-year-old daughter named Giulia. “I love getting deep into God’s Word,” Marcela says, “I teach in Bible schools in Italy and Switzerland where they speak Italian. When I have the opportunity, I also work with pastor friends in Spain.” (Perhaps this would be a good time for LOGOI to start accepting applications to see which volunteer we should send to Italy to meet Marcela.)

My first Bible school was LOGOI’s Facultad Latinoamericana de Estudios Teológicos (FLET) in Argentina back in the 1980s,” Marcela explains. “One of LOGOI’s graduates, Hector Petrecca, was our pastor and his church is where I found the Lord.” What a beautiful testimony of how the Lord has and continues to use and bless LOGOI’s ministry. She is currently working on her master’s degree with Dallas Theological Seminary’s Spanish program.

Sadly, Marcela has experienced terrible, unexpected loss in her life. “My two older brothers died when they were very young,” she says, “then my other brother died in 2018. My father passed away and my mother died last year.

Overcoming such devastating pain “has only been possible because of the hope, comfort, and help God gives us... My mother experienced losing her husband, her sons, a very young granddaughter, and all her younger siblings. She had Parkinson’s and was bound to a wheelchair after a stroke. Yet, she never renounced God. At night when she could not sleep, she would pray and talk to God.”

I had the privilege of personally caring for my parents and brothers until they breathed their last breath. This has been a very strong school of life for me, but thank God, it has been channeled into love for God, for His Word, and for my neighbors.

Would you take a moment right now and pray for Marcela? We are humbled and thrilled to have a small part in her life and ministry. She sends a “great big hug from Italy” to her LOGOI family. May the Lord raise up many more Marcelas.
