I had watched dozens and dozens of Charlie Kirk’s videos long before he was killed. I have watched dozens and dozens more since he was assassinated. Like many, it has affected me a great deal.

In the midst of bombardment of news surrounding Charlie Kirk including his memorial service, another funeral took place. This memorial service was for a WW2 Army Air Corps veteran named Jack. He volunteered for service when he was 18 years old and went on to serve 50 missions as a bombardier (only 40% of his division returned).

The contrast between Jack's and Charlie’s memorial services was profound. A large part of the world mourned for Charlie. Just a few family and friends, in comparison, mourned for Jack (in large part because Jack had outlived most of his friends). In both services, the beautiful and powerful Matthew 25:21 Bible verse was used, “Well done, good and faithful servant…” In both services, friends and family nodded in agreement as they reflected on their lives.

One of the things I miss most about my dad was going to get a cup of Cuban coffee and chatting about life. My dad was full of good natured wisdom and was also well versed in love, life, and politics.

One such conversation came after my Grandma Doty died. She lived into her 90s and had faithfully served in the nursery of her church for most of her adult life. With a slight smile on his face, Dad asked, “Who do you think has the bigger mansion in heaven, Billy Graham or your Grandma Doty?”

Dad then went on to give me a little lesson on 1 Samuel 16:7, “The Lord doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

LOGOI is packed full of Jacks and Grandma Dotys. If we have any “Charlies,” I’m not aware of them yet. Most all of those God has called us to serve, help, and encourage are “simple” pastors, leaders, and teachers. They are living quiet lives faithfully serving the Lord in their homes, churches, and communities.

Our Missionary of the Month for this month is Orlando Castro Pacheco in Merida, Mexico. He pastors a small church in the poor community where he lives. While he barely has two nickels to rub together, he has a heart for the less fortunate. To help the poor in his community and others like his, Orlando organized a group of 60 churches to help and serve the needy in their communities.

My heart remains heavy for Charlie Kirk’s family and friends. Our world can be such a mess and it often seems like evil is winning. But I know God sits on His throne and history is unfolding according to His will and purpose — of which you nor I will ever understand this side of Heaven.

God has filled the world with Jacks, Orlandos and Grandma Dotys — and also with you and me. We are called to be faithful where He has placed us, to love Him and be lights for the Gospel in a dark world. Like all those before us, and despite our many flaws, God delights in using us to fulfill His purposes. What an awesome thought.

Thank you for being a part of God’s plan through LOGOI. We are so blessed to have you invest some of your time, prayers, and finances to help “build up the church, the body of Christ” (Ephesians 4:12).

Jack, by the way, was the Chairman of LOGOI’s Board for many years in the early days of our ministry. His impact on LOGOI’s ministry continues to this very day. It gives me great comfort to consider that he and Charlie are bathed in our Savior’s love and experiencing the wonders of heaven.

One day it will be our turn. May we strive for the Lord to also say to you and me, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

Forever!
