I have called you by name, you are mine

I have long been fascinated about names. Just saying someone’s name, for example, instantly puts all sorts of thoughts and images into your brain: their appearance, smile, personality, attitudes, likes and dislikes, and so much more. The fact that it all happens instantly is fascinating.
How wonderful is it that God brought the animals he created to Adam to name? Genesis 2:19 says, “So the Lord God formed from the ground all the wild animals and all the birds of the sky. He brought them to the man to see what he would call them, and the man chose a name for each one.” I think they had an absolute blast naming the animals and I also think there had to be a great deal of laughter…especially with animals like the giraffe, hippopotamus and the proboscis monkey.
The thought that God knows my name is almost impossible for me to comprehend. Take just a moment and think about that: the God who created the sun and stars and mountains and oceans and Adam and Moses and the platypus… knows your name! He knows your appearance, your smile, personality, attitudes, likes and dislikes, and even the number of hair on your head (or lack thereof). He even knows your thoughts before you think them (see Psalms 139).
God has given us some wonderful names to know here at LOGOI. For many, all we know are their names and just a little about them. For others, we know their story, where they came from, how God has redeemed them, and how they are serving the Lord today. Each one is precious in God’s sight and thus ours, too.

Take a moment with me right now and just look at a few of the names God has put in our lives. You know them only from what we’ve been able to gather, but they are our brothers and sisters whom we have an eternity to get to know: Luz Maria Ramirez, Saúl Ovalle Sanles, Monica Díaz Botero, Luis Mendoza, Carlos Mercado, Douglas Torres, Maria Alejandra Amado, Orlando Castro Pacheco, Alain Cuellar Muñoz, and Manuel Alejandro Ruiz Perrello. Just a few of our national missionaries we’ve had the joy of getting to know these past months.
The other names precious to the Lord and to us are the men and women who give of their resources to help proclaim the Gospel by supporting the ministry of LOGOI. People like Dick, Sally, Steve, Sylvia, Jim, Anne, James, Kathryn, Betty, Carol, Jerry, Adam, Patty, Gordon, Joy, John, Lisa, and so many others — all of whom give because they love the Lord.
Thank you for lending your name to be a part of the ministry of LOGOI. You are precious to us and we are so grateful for your friendship and partnership. God is using your time and gifts to let others know He knows their names and it is a beautiful thing. Thank you!
The best way to end this simple letter to you are with a few words from King David which in my mind, are some of the most beautiful words in all of Scripture. May you read them and rejoice that He knows your name.
“O Lord, you have examined my heart and know everything about me. You know when I sit down or stand up. You know my thoughts even when I’m far away. You see me when I travel and when I rest at home. You know everything I do. You know what I am going to say even before I say it, Lord. You go before me and follow me. You place your hand of blessing on my head” (Psalms 139:1-5 NLT).
Forever!
