Rosario Pinto Chay, Tapachula, Chiapas, Mexico

LOGOI

The Mayan Ruins in Chiapas, Mexico are some of the most studied archeological ruins in the world. Their extensive hieroglyphics tell stories and historical facts about how ancient Mayan people lived, thrived, and ruled as early as 1500 B.C.

While those ancient hieroglyphics are no doubt interesting, proclaiming the Good News in easy-to-understand Spanish is what interests LOGOI’s Missionary of the Month the most. Meet Rosario Pinto Chay, pastor’s wife, and mother to three. “As a family,” she joyfully states, “we serve the Lord.”

Rosario was born into a Christian home. It was at the age of 15 that she confessed Christ as Savior and felt God’s calling to a lifetime of service to the Lord. As with many, her ministry began by teaching the little ones in her church.

“Today,” she explains, “I love to serve and care for those who do not attend church at all. Instead, we take the church to them.” With a great smile, she describes the ministry for children who gather in the public park where they live. “It’s a neighborhood where selling and using drugs is a significant problem. The children are caught between terrific problems with drugs, violence, and neglect. Many who join us at the park come from addicted parents and family members. We get to surround them with love and positive influence as we tell them about Jesus.”

“The second group,” Rosario continues, “are young people who meet in our home. Some of them are also from addicted families. We meet each week and work hard to become their friend as we share the Word of God with them. It is a joy to be able to teach and comfort them and tell them the Good News of Jesus.”

The third group is their radio audience from the “Children’s Radio Bible Class.” Just like they do in the park, they share the Gospel through Bible stories and the teachings of Jesus.

Chiapas is one of the poorest states in Mexico and rates as one of the lowest states in poverty and illiteracy. Drug trafficking is a serious problem as people are lured to it for a way out of poverty or as an escape from life’s struggles. “We are living in a time of crisis because of drug trafficking,” Rosario explains, “and sadly, even with all the suffering, there is little hunger for God. But into this situation, God has called us to be a light on a hill for those willing to seek Him. We are always looking to continue learning and discover new ways of reaching the lost and to that end we are thrilled to have found LOGOI. Through your Bible resources and courses, we have discovered a wealth of knowledge and ideas that is greatly helping us in our ministry.”

Would you take a moment right now to pray for Rosario? While acknowledging their urgent need for financial resources, Rosario’s prayer is that she would always follow God’s leading, to not be discouraged, and for “hard hearts” tainted by drugs and poverty to be softened to hear the Gospel.
