Darlene Kliewer - Phelan, California

LOGOI

Updated: Mar 7

Our March Missionary of The Month has been a friend of LOGOI’s Grandma Carolyn since they were teenagers. They grew up together in Northwest Washington, went to summer church camps together, and were both pastor’s daughters in neighboring towns. “When I think of Darlene,” Grandma Carolyn says, “I think of all her creativity and talent. She could sew and make just about anything and loved to play the piano.”

When Darlene contacted LOGOI wondering if we could use some of her handmade dolls our immediate answer was a resounding, “Yes!” Thus began a new and beautiful ministry partnership. “I pray for God’s blessing on each one of these little dolls,” Darlene says. “They are made with much love, and I pray the Lord will use them to be ‘cups of cold water’ in Jesus’ name.”

The latest “cups of cold water” in the shape of Darlene’s dolls have made their way to Chiapas, Mexico, where our national missionaries minister to children where many of their parents are drug addicts; to poor and dangerous barrios in Ecuador where our national missionaries minister to families living in poverty, to Peru and a very happy group of children ministered to by the women of the church, and to children of a Wayuu Tribe in the Guajira Desert in northern Colombia.

If Darlene and her dolls are inspiring you to help give “cups of cold water,” we’d love to hear from you. It starts with an email to “Grandma Carolyn” at grandmacarolyn@logoi.org and just telling us what you’re thinking. Maybe your church has a “missionary closet” or something special you create. Send us an email and we’d love to start a conversation with you.

Would you take a moment right now and pray for Darlene and her dolls? Pray that God will give her the needed energy to care for her husband and to keep her fingers nimble so she can keep crocheting. Also, pray that God will use her dolls to let the love and light of Jesus shine brightly in each little arm that hugs them.
