Why would Jesus do this for me?

I have mentioned how much I miss the special times I spent with my dad at LOGOI’s office. I am very aware of the blessing God gave me to have my own personal Bible teacher and theologian in the office next door. He’d smile as I entered his office (often with a nice Cuban coffee) and off we’d go on my own personal seminary class.
Like my grandfather, Elmer Thompson, whom I think only sinned once or twice his entire life (I’m joking…sort of), my dad seemed to me to be on that same “sinless” path. He loved Jesus with all his heart and it was hard to think of him being a sinner like me. But when we’d talk about Jesus and what He did for us on the cross, Dad would always cry. His eyes would fill with tears and he couldn’t finish his sentence asking, “Why would Jesus do this for me?”
We know the Bible tells us that “God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners” (Romans 5:8 NLT) … but “why?”
In my personal theology lesson, Dad would try to explain how we mere humans can never truly understand God’s love and grace — especially when it’s so undeserved. “All we can do is say ‘thank you,’” Dad would try to say, but then he’d get all choked up again and couldn’t finish his thoughts.
We know you give to the Lord’s work because you love Him and want others to believe in Jesus, his death and resurrection, and be reconciled with God. Thank you for including LOGOI as part of saying, “Thank you” to Jesus. We are very grateful to be part of your ministry in helping others understand what Jesus did for you and for me.
I often go to “EnduringWord.com” for their Bible commentary. I was looking over their thoughts on John 18 and came across these comments. I thought they were very fitting as we say “thank you” to Jesus for Easter.

Forever,
