Meet Cathy Villanueva, one of our amazing national missionaries who joyfully defines herself as “a pastor’s wife.” She and her husband, Pastor Juan Villanueva Guevara, serve a Spanish-speaking community at Iglesia Bíblica Berea in our own backyard in Ashland, Alabama.
“Juan and I have four children and we have been serving our church since 2004,” Cathy says. “I love being a pastor’s wife and stay very busy as part of discipling new believers and serving where needed with other women of the church.”
LOGOI’s founder, Dr. Les Thompson would half-jokingly say, “Without the women of the church, nothing would ever get done.” Talking to Cathy, it would be hard to disagree.
“We would like to plant a new mission church where God has already opened a door for us,” Cathy says excitedly. Without question, she fully embraces her partnership role with her husband. When talking with her there is no “he” or “I,” but always a “we.” “As God allows us to go forward,” she continues, “we are working ardently to help more people become followers of Jesus.”
Their ministry has been greatly aided by LOGOI’s Bible courses, especially our doctrine courses focusing on the person of God, Christ, and the Holy Spirit. “We have used and shared your Bible courses which are a great blessing,” Cathy says. “They have helped us build up the foundation of our faith and then help us teach others who God is and what He commands. Thanks to these courses, we are learning and teaching doctrine and scripture.”
What a beautiful testimony of God’s design for a husband and wife. They are a wonderful team joyfully serving God together. Would you take a moment right now and pray for Cathy? In particular, she asks for good health for her husband and family so that all may continue to serve faithfully and with “interest and determination.” And while you’re praying, go ahead and ask the Lord that, like Cathy, we will also serve the Lord with interest and determination!
Your gifts are used to help train and equip national missionaries to proclaim the Gospel and make disciples all over the Spanish-speaking world.
