Jonathan Paucar, Madrid, Spain

LOGOI

Have you ever met a person with a seemingly perpetual smile? We have! His name is Pastor Jonathan Paucar [pronounced, “Pow-car”]. His friendly smile and gracious spirit are both magnetic and enigmatic, leading some to wonder, “Why is that guy always so happy?” But his answer is simple: “Jesus!”

Born in Peru, Jonathan was baptized at the age of 15 and joined Peru’s Evangelical Church. Because of his devotion to the church’s youth, he was soon appointed director of both the Youth and Sunday school ministries. The regional leadership of his denomination took notice and made him a leader.

Pastor Paucar is one of the thousands of church leaders throughout the Western Hemisphere who fondly remember meeting LOGOI’s founder, Dr. Les Thompson. “As one of the leaders of Peru’s Evangelical Church, I had the privilege of working with Dr. Thompson when he came to my town of Huancayo, Peru,” Jonathan explains. “I was asked to be a part of LOGOI’s teaching team, which was a great honor.”

Working with LOGOI, Jonathan became both teacher and student. He credits LOGOI and Les with challenging erroneous theology he had previously learned, and strengthening other teachings where he lacked clarity and conviction. “Dr. Les and LOGOI were always focused on teaching and helping us understand God’s Word. That’s exactly what I wanted to do and continue to do today,” he adds.

More recently, Pastor Paucar’s work has taken him to Spain’s capital city of Madrid. Jonathan is ministering for the Pastoral Council of the Baptist Churches, seeking pastors to help build and grow local churches. He is also a pastor at the Asambleas de Hermanos de Alcalá de Henares in Madrid. The man with the perpetual smile is using his talent and love of people to spread the Good News in Madrid’s plazas, making use of puppets, theatrics, and LOGOI’s resources to teach his audiences.

Making disciples is a family affair in the Paucar household. Jonathan’s wife, Silvia, came to Peru as a missionary from Brazil. She worked with low-income children for the Casa de Oración ministries. Jonathan and Silvia have three children. They are both grateful for the ongoing ministry of LOGOI, and continue to use LOGOI resources and courses in their Bible training of others as their ministry has expanded beyond Spain to Lima and Huancayo in Peru, Sao Paulo in Brazil, and San Bernadino in the state of California.
