Erick Hernandez, Bahia Blanca, Argentina

Many are surprised to learn that basketball often rivals the popularity of futbol (soccer) in Argentina. Since the 1950s, Bahía Blanca has been the top city for Argentine basketball producing such NBA players as Juan Ignacio “Pepe” Sánchez (Philadelphia 76ers) and Manu Ginóbili, a four-tie NBA champion with the San Antonio Spurs.

To our knowledge, our Bahía Blanca national missionary, Erick Hernandez, never had any NBA aspirations, but he is one of our incredibly talented “players” on LOGOI’s team — or to say it much more accurately, on God’s team.

Meet Erick Hernandez: a devoted husband, father, pastor, musician, evangelist, teacher, health care giver, children and youth minister, band leader — and we’re just getting started. As with so many God calls to serve His church, there is little pastors like Erick cannot do.

I was born in Santiago, Chile,” Erick explains, “and my grandmother took me to Sunday School with the Salvation Army. When our family moved to Argentina, we continued to worship with the Salvation Army where I accepted Jesus into my heart. Since then, I have not ceased to serve the Lord.”

"In addition to their ministry in Argentina, Erick and his wife and family served in South Africa from 2003 to 2019. We smiled when Erick described their ministry in South Africa sounding so very familiar regarding how God uniquely equips His people."

In South Africa, we did everything: administration, church maintenance, finding food for our food pantry, packaging it up, and taking it to the poor barrios every week. We also took food and blankets, prayed with the sick, and brought the Gospel to primary and secondary schools. By God’s grace, we saw many saved and healed.”

Today, Erick continues to serve in Bahía Blanca under the direction of Radiant Church in Colorado Springs where they await their next assignment. To that end Erick says, “We always need to be prepared and ready for wherever God will take us. LOGOI has been so helpful with your Bible resources and courses and we are very glad to have earned your biblical counseling certificate. Our studies continue to be a great help as we help and counsel young people, adults, married couples and families.”

Would you take a moment right now and pray for Erick and his wife Susan? Specifically, they ask for God’s clear leading regarding their next assignment which may include moving to Colorado Springs to serve in evangelism and biblical counseling.

What a joy to have a part in helping and encouraging national missionaries like Erick. May God raise up an army of Ericks.
