So begins the song I used to sing with my dad called, “God Spoke.” The song continues to talk about how David did listen “and he slew Goliath with a tiny stone.” It then moves on to talk about how Joshua also listened and saw the walls of Jericho fall down “because he listened to the Lord."

It’s a fun little song that gets stuck in your head. While it was made for children, the simple truth of “how we’d all be better off ” is profound. The chorus goes like this:

“God spoke to him

Like He speaks to all of us, And we’d all be better off

If we listen to what He has to say.”

Thanksgiving reminds us of God’s countless blessings in our lives — when we listen to what He has to say — and even when we don’t. How can we ever be thankful enough that God is our Good Shepherd and relentlessly pursues His lost sheep?

One of the great delights in working and partnering with LOGOI is knowing we are all very real people. We have those glorious moments when we did listen to the Lord and feel like we slew Goliath or saw walls fall down like Joshua. But we also have those discouraging moments when we knew what God said, but “ate the fruit” anyway.

“I was born into a pastor’s home,” César Gotopo in Maracaibo, Venezuela explained, “and I have been involved in church activities for as long as I can remember. But like many others, I had a crisis of faith and turned far from God.” In César’s case, God used a self study of LOGOI’s apologetics course to help lead him back to “listening to the Lord.” Today, he has “overwhelming certainty of who Jesus is” and even has a ministry to college students in Maracaibo, Venezuela.

Then there is our Missionary of the Month from May, Carlos González Berrotarán from Argentina. He explained, “I grew up in a family steeped in witchcraft and addiction. I was immersed in the sin of a godless life with no future.” He was invited to a crusade where he “listened to the Lord.” “Everything changed,” he joyfully said, “I was set free and began a complete transformation in the hands of Jesus.” Today Carlos has a teaching ministry in his church with dreams of becoming a full-time pastor.

Thanksgiving helps us remember, even for a moment, on all that God has brought us through. We have all experienced the truth of “we would have been better off ” had we listened to the Lord as well as slaying a giant or two in our lives.

We are so grateful your journey of faith includes the ministry of LOGOI. We thank the Lord for your prayers and gifts. They are such an encouragement to us and all those God has called us to serve. Last year, over 400,000 Spanish people paid a visit to our online Bible resource center. Thank you for helping make that possible. Please, keep it up. Every day new people discover LOGOI’s ministry and how we help them “listen to the Lord.”

Now if you like, you can to see and hear my dad and me sing, “God Spoke.” I was around eight years old and had no trouble with the high notes. It can be your little reminder that “we’d all be better off if we listen to what He has to say."

Forever!
