Usually, when we meet someone new and the first thing they say is, “I am not a missionary, I’m just a housewife…” we know we’re in for a great surprise. So when we met “just a housewife,” Maria Alejandra Amado, we knew we’d found another treasure in God’s wonderful big family.
Maria lives in Medellín, Colombia, known as the “City of Eternal Spring” for its pleasant climate. Medellín has made huge transformations from its violent past and is one of Latin America’s great success stories. Today, it is considered one of the world’s most innovative cities with its ingenious public transportation system which includes cable cars and outdoor escalators.

In this “new” innovative city is an equally amazing housewife who answered a “call for help” to teach children at her church. “I learned our children’s ministry needed help and I immediately said, ‘Yes,’” Maria told us, "I quickly discovered the joy of telling children about Jesus, the Bible, and what it means to believe in Him."
Maria is happily married, and God has given them a son who is now six-years-old. You may also like to know she is an architect by trade. However, she has discovered a love for teaching and is now not only teaching at her home church, but also at another church in a nearby city. She is also part of the “Maxwell Global Youth Initiative Leadership,” where she goes into schools and even colleges where they can discuss gospel themes and invite those who wish to pray with them. (What a beautiful thing to hear as we consider how far
we’ve strayed from that in America.)
Maria discovered LOGOI when she was going through a difficult time in her life. Searching for answers and God’s leading, she logged onto LOGOI’s online Bible Resource Center and found our Bible courses. “I love to study,” she explains, “and with LOGOI I could manage my time by studying virtually without having to leave my home or responsibilities. Not only did LOGOI’s Bible resources help me navigate a difficult time in my life, but they are also helping me in my Bible teaching responsibilities. I am very grateful to God for LOGOI.” [NOTE: Maria has earned LOGOI certificates for our Bible teaching courses, Bible doctrine courses, and Discipleship courses.]

Maria is presently asking God to help them finish a Spiritual Retreat Center. “We have had many obstacles,” she explains, “and have not been able to finish this project. We are asking for prayer and the Lord’s leading to finish this center which will be a great retreat and teaching location."
Would you take a moment right now and pray for Maria and this Spiritual Retreat Center project? And while you’re at it, thank the Lord for raising up such willing and capable people like Maria. Every church and community needs a “Maria!” Perhaps God is calling you to be another capable and willing messenger of the Gospel in your church and community.
