Meet Yoyceline Lovert, a beloved child of God. Can there be a better way to be described?
We first learned of Yoyceline when she joined our LOGOI family last year all the way from Curaçao, Netherlands Antilles. Can you find it on a map? It’s an island with less than 165,000 residents in the southern Caribbean Sea, about 40 miles north of the Venezuela coast. Together with Aruba and Bonaire, it comprises the “ABC Islands.”
“How did you come to know the Lord?” we asked, excited to get to know a new national missionary living on this island paradise. She answered, “I came to know Jesus as a child, but He really entered my life when I was 25 years old after I became a mother and had an accident that left me a widow and in a wheelchair.”
In an instant, thoughts of an “island paradise” changed. Tragedy, heartache, and troubles don’t have any boundaries. Yet, in her sorrow and struggle, Jesus was there, holding His beloved child.
Yoyceline lives with her son and works as a salesperson to make ends meet. She would never claim to be “accomplishing great things for Christ.” In fact, with much honesty, she’s not really sure what God is up to nor how He is using her. Do you ever feel the same?
“LOGOI’s Bible studies have helped me share my faith” is all she answers regarding her “ministry.” She adds, “I don’t know what God’s plans are for me in the days ahead, but I want to be useful to Him as He shows me the way forward.”
We sometimes tend to think the well-known evangelist or great preacher at our church is one whom Jesus really uses to proclaim the Gospel. And while that is certainly true, it is often the faithful volunteer nursery worker or cashier or salesperson in a wheelchair the Lord uses to advance His kingdom. “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago” (Ephesians 2:10).
Yoyceline is indeed one of our amazing national missionaries—and FLET student. She says, “I want to grow spiritually and be useful for God and to be faithful to the end.” May that be our goal, too.
